Magic United are delighted to announce the construction of additional changing facilities to accommodate the growing number of female players and teams at the Club.
The program now boasts 150 junior girls and women and is continuing to see a surge in participation following the success of the Matildas in last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. In which the tournament raised the profile of the game to a new audience.
“It is important to us as a club that our female players have a safe environment to prepare, train, play and change.  We are delighted to make this announcement and to be able to provide facilities that meet the needs of all our players.  The changing rooms, first aid room, storage and multifunctional space is an important step for us in meeting our 5 year strategic plan for Women and Girls Program at Magic United.  As part of the plan we will be working with Football Queensland to enter competitive football teams into the Academy leagues providing the same opportunities for both girls and boys at the Club” said Andrew Robinson,  General Manager of Magic United FC.
The construction will be delivered over three project stages.  The first stage is funded by a grant from the State Government – Minor Infrastructure Grant $320,000 and Cr Bob La Castra.
Funding for stage two and three are yet to be confirmed and are subject to approvals from other grant funding sources.
The successful development of these facilities is thanks to a number of stakeholders from City of Gold Coast Council, Queensland Government and Queensland Sport and Recreation, Cr Bob La Castra, Football Queensland, Magic United Committee and the Magic Group In Business (MGIB) Women Ambassadors.
Magic United are seeking to appoint a Project Manager to oversee and deliver the project.  Interested applicants can view the scope of works document here.  Applications close on Friday 14th June 2024.
Magic United FC are ambitious and committed to providing fair and equitable opportunities for girls and boys.

Congratulations on securing substantial grant funding towards new female changing rooms at Magic United FC.

Over the past few years, the growth of female participation in football on the Gold Coast has been phenomenal, and Magic United, as always, has led from the front in terms of encouraging more female players to take up the sport, providing first class coaching, and understanding the very real need for stand-alone facilities to service the requirements of female players. It is for all these reasons that Magic United has deservedly been rewarded with the receipt of grant funding.

I remain, as ever, a big admirer of what you and your team do for sport in our fabulous city, which is why I’m pleased to allocate financial support in the 24/25 Division 8 Local Area Works Budget, towards the female changing rooms; this funding will be additional to the $100,000 allocated in 23/24.

Once again, you are to be congratulated on your proactive, genuine support of female football, and football in general.
